Riga is the capital and largest city of Latvia. Located on the Gulf of Riga, at the mouth of the Daugava River it was founded in 1201. Riga has a population of about 630.000 people and is known for its Art Nouveau architecture, with over 800 buildings in this style.
On this walk we start near the Freedom Monument and explore the historic center which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The city has a mixed architectural heritage, with medieval, Gothic, Baroque, and modern structures. On this summer evening walk we see plenty of squares, catch the illumination at at the House of the Blackheads and finally end our tour at the iconic Riga train station.
