Zurich is Switzerland's largest city, home to roughly 440,000 residents where the Limmat flows out of Lake Zurich. The Romans founded the settlement as Turicum in 15 BC, and the 9th-century Fraumünster now displays five stained-glass windows that Marc Chagall installed in 1970. Along the 1.4-kilometer Bahnhofstrasse, shoppers browse a street once named the world's most expensive in the 1990s. Across the river, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology has produced 22 Nobel laureates since its 1855 founding, including Albert Einstein.
