Eltville am Rhein is the largest town in the Rheingau region of Hesse, home to roughly 17,000 residents along the Rhine River. Known historically as the City of Wine and Roses, the settlement earned town rights in 1332 under the Archbishops of Mainz. The 14th-century Electoral Castle features a preserved tower housing a memorial to Johannes Gutenberg, who lived and printed in the town.
