Description
Let's discover Chemnitz on a 1-hour walking tour through the 3rd largest city in Saxony. Chemnitz was celebrated as the European Capital of Culture 2025.
Today, we start our walk at the bronze penguin sculptures on Klosterstraße and head straight to the central market square (Markt), where a wine festival is taking place.
From there, the route leads past the historic Roter Turm and the Stadthalle. A must see comes next - we stop by the most famous landmark of ex-"Karl-Marx-Stadt": the massive 40-tonne Karl Marx Monument, locally known as the "Nischel" which means something like big (dumb) head.
Leaving the monument behind, we stroll through the quiet Brühl neighborhood before reaching the central railway station (Hauptbahnhof).
Finally, we pass the impressive Opernhaus on Theaterplatz and loop back to our starting point via the Rosenhof - back to the penguins...
