Nha Trang sits on the South China Sea coast of south-central Vietnam, where roughly 530,000 residents make their home in the country's premier beach resort. The 6 km Trần Phú Beach faces 19 offshore islands, while the Po Nagar Cham Towers — built between the 8th and 13th centuries — preserve a Hindu temple complex of the Champa kingdom. The 1886 Nha Trang Oceanographic Institute holds 20,000 marine specimens, and Alexandre Yersin lived here from 1893 until his death in 1943. Above the bay, the 1971 Vinpearl Cable Car crosses 3,320 m of sea to Hòn Tre Island.
