Rotterdam is the second largest city in the Netherlands (after Amsterdam) located in the west of the country. The city is known for its port which Europe’s busiest by cargo tonnage. Rotterdam was rebuilt from the 1950s through the 1990s and has a modern image with many highrise buildings compared to the rest of the Netherlands.
We start our tour on a windy day Kruisplein / Mauritsweg with Rotterdam Centraal in the distance. We pass the Schouwburgplein on our way around the center with a stroll in the area around the Oude Binnenweg which is busy on this weekday morning.
Heading east we pass the Maritime Museum with some display of outdoor old harbour cranes. As we are getting closer to the water, we see the Erasmus brigge and Aida cruise ship in the distance. We cross the Erasmus Bridge to the south bank of the Nieuwe Maas river.
There at the cruise ship terminal we walk to have a good view of the city and the the Hotel New York in the historic Holland Amerika Lijn building ending this walking tour.
