Overview
We are in Cádiz, Spain on a rainy winter day. Cadiz one of the oldest cities in Europe, founded by the Phoenicians around 1100 BCE with a population around 115.000 these days. Cadiz is located in southwestern Spain on a narrow peninsula surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean.

The city of Cadiz is known for its 18th-century Baroque cathedral, which features a golden dome visible from afar. Cádiz is also quite famous for its annual Carnival, one of the most celebrated in Spain, attracting thousands of visitors each year. Cádiz also appeared in the James Bond film "Die Another Day" as a stand-in for Havana though today the weather is nothing like usually in Havana.

Christopher Columbus departed from Cádiz on his second and fourth voyages to the Americas. The city played a significant role during Spain's colonial era as a key port. Cádiz is home to over 100 watchtowers, including the Torre Tavira, which served as a lookout point in the 18th century.

On this walking tour we explore the many narrow streets of Cadiz, see the market, cathedral and get a feel of winter in Spain. We enter some churches (those without entry fees) and even get a glimpse of the Atlantic ocean before we end our tour.

Some more interesting facts: In 1812, Cádiz was the site of the signing of Spain’s first liberal constitution, known as the Cádiz Constitution.
