Cardiff is the capital and largest city of Wales, home to around 360,000 residents along the River Taff on the Bristol Channel. Established as a Roman fort around 75 AD, the city grew into the world's largest coal-exporting port by the late 19th century. Cardiff Castle stands in the civic center, combining an 11th-century Norman keep with Victorian Gothic revival interiors designed by William Burges. In the Cardiff Bay waterfront district, the 2004 Wales Millennium Centre serves as a national arts venue alongside the Senedd Parliament building.
