Bratislava, Slovakia
Bratislava is a Slovak city of roughly 475,000 residents on the Danube and the only national capital that borders two sovereign states, Austria and Hungary. Bratislava Castle, first recorded in 907, stands on a 90-metre hill above the river. Between 1563 and 1830, eleven Hungarian kings and eight queens were crowned inside the Gothic Cathedral of Saint Martin, completed in 1454. The Michalská Gate, built in 1572, is the only surviving entrance through the medieval city walls. Above it all, the UFO restaurant on the 1972 SNP Bridge hovers 84 metres over the water.
