Bydgoszcz, Poland

Bydgoszcz sits on the Brda and Vistula rivers in northern Poland with roughly 345,000 residents. The Bydgoszcz Canal, opened in 1774, links the Vistula and Oder basins and ranks among the oldest operating canals in Europe. The Opera Nova, dating to 1910, hosts Camerimage each November, the largest international film festival devoted to cinematography. On Mill Island, restored 18th-century granaries now hold museum and gallery space. Above the river, the "Crossing" sculpture by Jerzy Kędziora balances on a single cable.
