Budva, Montenegro

Budva is a resort town of roughly 22,000 people on Montenegro's Adriatic coast, and at about 2,400 years old it ranks among the oldest settlements in the region. Its fortified Old Town occupies a small peninsula joined to the mainland by a sandspit, with 15th-century walls enclosing eight churches and a network of narrow stone lanes. To the south, the 1.6 km Slovenska Plaža beach stretches along the bay. The town's name is also tied to the nearby Sveti Stefan islet, a former fishing village turned hotel that sits at the end of a 19th-century causeway.
