Šiauliai, Lithuania

Šiauliai is the fourth-largest city in Lithuania, founded in 1236 and home to roughly 100,000 residents. Sundial Square marks the geographic centre of the Baltic road network, anchored by an 18-metre gold-plated sundial. The city's bicycle museum, opened in 1980, is the only museum of its kind in Lithuania. Twelve kilometres to the north lies the Hill of Crosses, where pilgrims have placed more than 100,000 crosses since at least the 19th-century anti-Russian uprisings. What those pilgrims left behind still draws visitors today.
