Positano, Italy

Positano is a cliffside resort town on Italy's Amalfi Coast in the Campania region, home to approximately 3,800 permanent residents. Originally a port of the Amalfi Republic during the 9th and 10th centuries, it shifted from a quiet fishing village to an international destination in the 1950s. Steep stairways and narrow pedestrian alleys connect pastel-colored houses stacked directly into the sheer coastal mountainside. Notable sights include the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, famous for its tiled majolica dome and 13th-century Byzantine Black Madonna icon. Visitors relax on Spiaggia Grande beach, take boat trips along the rocky coastline, and hike the famous Path of the Gods trail above the village.
