Weinheim, Germany

Weinheim is a town of roughly 44,000 residents on the Bergstraße in Baden-Württemberg, about 18 km north of Heidelberg, and it was first documented in the year 755. The community is nicknamed the Two-Castle Town because the Wachenburg, built in 1024 and rebuilt in 1907, and Windeck Castle, built in 1110 and rebuilt in 1825, stand on two hills above the streets below. The 1825 Exotenwald holds around 2,500 non-native trees that Christian Friedrich Gustav Freiherr von Berckheim planted, while the 1986 Hermann Hesse-Kolleg language school honours the author who lived here from 1877 to 1962. On the 1840 Marktplatz stands the 1557 German House, the oldest surviving inn in Baden, leaving one detail about the town still waiting to be uncovered.
