Ulm, Germany

Ulm is a city of about 127,000 residents on the Danube in Baden-Württemberg, first documented in 854. Its Ulm Minster, built between 1377 and 1890, has the tallest church spire in the world at 161.53 meters, reached by 768 steps. The 1150 Fishermen's Quarter is a medieval half-timbered riverside district, and the 1345 Ulm Oath of Federation became the first German constitution. Albert Einstein was born here in 1879, while the 1967 University of Ulm leads in medical research and the 1951 Kunsthalle Weishaupt holds modern art.
