Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a medieval walled town in Bavaria's Franconia region, home to approximately 11,300 residents. Established in the 10th century and granted Free Imperial City status in 1274, it remains a prominent stop along Germany's Romantic Road. Complete 14th-century stone fortification walls, complete with gate towers and covered walkways, encircle the historic town center. Notable landmarks include the Town Hall with its Gothic and Renaissance facades, the Plönlein fork intersection, and Saint Jakob's Church containing Tilman Riemenschneider's Holy Blood altar.
