Osnabrück is a major urban center in northwestern Germany's state of Lower Saxony, home to roughly 168,000 residents. Founded by Charlemagne around 780 AD as a bishopric, the city earned fame as a co-signatory site for the 1648 Peace of Westphalia, ending the Thirty Years' War.
