Nuremberg, Germany

Nuremberg sits on the Pegnitz River in Bavaria with roughly 520,000 residents, and its 1350 Imperial Castle housed every Holy Roman Emperor between 1050 and 1571. The 1509 half-timbered home of painter Albrecht Dürer still stands in the old town, where he lived for two decades. The 1935 Nuremberg Laws gave legal form to Nazi racial policy, and the 1945–46 Nuremberg Trials prosecuted that leadership at the 1896 Palace of Justice, while the Documentation Centre museum now covers the rally grounds.
