Mühldorf, Germany

Mühldorf am Inn sits on the Inn river in Upper Bavaria, Germany, with roughly 20,000 residents and a history first documented in 927. The town twice drew German kings to its fields: a 1227 battle and the decisive 1322 victory of Louis the Bavarian over Frederick the Fair, which ended the Habsburg Wittelsbach rivalry. Within the old core stand the 1191 Saint Nicholas Minster with its 1490 painted ceiling and the 15th-century Mundzöhnlturm tower carrying a 1620 sundial. The Inn-Salzach-Mobil museum traces the river trade that long shaped this region.
