Mittenwald, Germany

Mittenwald is an alpine market town in upper Bavaria near the Austrian border, housing roughly 7,300 residents at the foot of the Karwendel mountains. The town prospered historically along the medieval trade route between Verona and Augsburg, later becoming famous for violin making through master craftsman Matthias Klotz in 1685. Brightly painted Bavarian houses decorated with traditional Lüftlmalerei frescoes border the pedestrian village streets.
