Freising, Germany

Freising is a city of roughly 50,000 residents on the Isar River, located about 35 kilometers north of Munich. Saint Corbinian founded the settlement as a religious center in 724, and the diocese he established in 739 remains the oldest in Bavaria. On the Domberg, the 1159 Romanesque Freising Cathedral pairs its medieval structure with 1724 stuccowork by the Asam brothers. The Weihenstephan Brewery, founded in 1102 within the former Benedictine abbey, operates as the oldest continuously operating brewery in the world, while the 1839 Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan runs alongside it. The 1852 TUM School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan now extends the hill's reach as a campus of the Technical University of Munich.
