Coburg, Germany

Coburg is a town of roughly 41,000 residents in Upper Franconia, Bavaria, situated on the Itz River. Its Ehrenburg Palace served as the family seat of the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha dynasty, which supplied monarchs to Britain (renamed the House of Windsor in 1917), Belgium, Portugal, and Bulgaria. The 11th-century Veste Coburg, known as the "Franconian Crown," stands on a 167-metre hill above the town, where Martin Luther lived for six months in 1530 and translated parts of the Bible. The local Coburger Bratwurst, dating to 1838, is grilled over pine cones.
