Bad Nauheim, Germany

Bad Nauheim is a spa town of roughly 32,000 residents in Hesse, Germany, situated about 30 km north of Frankfurt and built around six salt springs. Its centerpiece is the Jugendstil Sprudelhof, designed by Wilhelm Jost between 1900 and 1912 and covering 12 hectares as the largest Art Nouveau spa complex in Europe. Elvis Presley lived here from 1958 to 1960 during his US Army service at the 1935 Ray Barracks, and a 1959 photograph of him at the gate of the 1907 Sprudelhof courtyard became widely reproduced. The town also appears as the setting of Theodor Fontane's 1887 novel Cécile, and Elvis Presley Place was named in his honour in 1995.
