Olhão, Portugal, is a city located in the Algarve region. Olhao has a significant fishing industry and seafood offerings. The proximity to Faro makes it an interesting day trip - especially combining with a visit to the nearby island of Culantra. Every August, Olhão hosts an annual seafood festival, which draws visitors from across the region.
We are starting our tour in the Old Town at parish church of Our Lady of the Rosary. This church was built between 1681 and 1698. Financed entirely with donations from the local fishermen, this is Olhao’s most prominent historic building. We continue to the heart of Olhão - its Municipal Market, housed in two distinct buildings, where fresh produce and fish are sold daily. Soon we will see a scenic waterfront promenade and marina before we head towards the town center.
The historic quarter of Olhão is characterized by whitewashed houses and narrow, winding streets before we return to our starting point.
Join this tour of Olhao, which is an sometimes overlooked town on the coast of the Algarve yet surely worth a quick visit when visiting nearby Faro.
