Kampot, Cambodia is a riverside town in the southeast of the country. With laid-back vibes it is also dubbed the durian capital the town is pretty popular with retirees from the West. The population is only roughly 40,000 while tourists also go through Kampot on their way to Can Tho, Vietnam or other destinations.
The riverside, where we start our tour can feel touristy at times. Local tourists enjoy river cruises here. The “old bridge” stands out - a mishmash of styles from various eras which we will cross later on this walk.
We see the town center where locals engage in some sports activities. We see the market near “durian roundabout” with a durian statue. We eventually return to the river and cross the bridge for an impression.
While Kampot has some natural beauty, a hint of colonial past, and a bit of commercial tourism there is not much to see. Compared to the concrete jungle of Sihanoukville and the busy streets of Phnomh Penh we get an impression of a town similar in vibe to Siem Reap, which we all visited here on POPtravel.
