Chemnitz is a city in Saxony, Germany with a population of around 245.000. As the 3rd largest city in the state of Saxony behind Dresden and Leipzig, Chemnitz is less known for tourism yet won European Capital of Culture for 2025.
Today we are at the Bergparade in Chemnitz. This traditional parade usually takes place at the start of the Christmas season celebrating local mining history. We will see the participants from several mining towns historical uniforms. The parade includes music played by brass bands from various traditional heritage groups of the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge).
The parade is part of the larger Christmas market in Chemnitz so we also have a look around the market on this cold winter day. After we have a good look around the Christmas Market from the Marktplatz to the Innere KlosterstraΓe we end our December afternoon walk.
