Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia was once famed for its beautiful and historical architecture and attractions. Today the city is only visited briefly by most tourists on their way to the famous Siem Reap / Angkor Wat. Some expats and retirees still try Phnom Penh as their home when towns like Kampot are too quiet or far off.
This afternoon we are starting our walking tour at Wat Phnom Daun Penh. This temple and park lies in the north of the city center. The Buddhist temple built on site of 14th-century pagoda and is the tallest religious structure in the city so we spend the first 15 minutes there.
With the coming evening, the city’s markets, like the Russian Market and Central Market, buzz with activity. We pass the Phnom Penh Night Market area which is offering everything from clothes to the traditional Khmer dishes and street food.
After sunset we already stroll along the riverfront park. There locals and tourists gather for exercise and leisure, especially now, that the temperatures are getting cooler.
We walk the whole Sisowath Riverside Park to the Koh Pich area. There is a collection of seafood restaurants that is popular mainly with locals. As we arrive it’s dinner time and we finish our walking tour of Phnom Penh.
