Kotor, Montenegro is a coastal town popular with tourists visiting the country. Located in the scenic Bay of Kotor, the medieval Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We start our Kotor tour right there in the old town center at Cathedral of Saint Tryphon (built in 1166). From there we walk all around the old town and eventually head up to the castle Kotor.
The Castle of San Giovanni overlooks Kotor from a hilltop. To reach the castle remains, we’ll climb over a thousand steps. The castle we built around the 5th century. The trek up there requires an entrance fee of β¬8 (as of 2022-23). The hike is a nice exercise and surely one of the best activities when in Kotor. We are rewarded with views of the Bay of Kotor and end our walking tour up there.
