Side / Turkey (Tรผrkiye) is a resort town on the country’s southern Mediterranean coast. Side is a tourist favorite with several resorts and hotels. Side itself is an ancient port city, where several of Greco-Roman ruins still can be seen. The first settlements on side date back to 1000BC. In the 7th or 6th centuries BC Greek settlers established a colony and built a harbor to make Side prosper through trade.
We start our walking tour of Side at the Temples of Apollo and Athena. From there we walk around the inner city center which is all about restaurants and tourist shops. With most travelers coming to Side from other parts of Europe, the Euro instead of the Turkish Lira is the currency of choice here.
Later we see both sides Side’s peninsula. During sunset, Side harbor is a great place for a stroll. The temperatures are now more comfortable. The glas paths over the ruins of Side are lit up showing ancient constructions while walking over them.
With the night we head out of town, pass the amphitheater towards the bus station. Both sides of the street have further ancient ruins. Our tour ends at the bus station with a view of Nymphaeum (Anฤฑtsal รeลme).
