Walking in SPEYER / Germany 🇩🇪

Speyer / Germany is a city in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and part of the Rhine-Neckar region. Historically Speyer has Roman origins. In 10 BC Romans erected a military camp in what is now Speyer’s city centre, then called Noviomagus or Civitas Nemetum. Speyer is one of the oldest cities in Germany, just like Trier ( https://youtu.be/-PAoZ6fFoUs ). Around the year 600 it became the center of the Speyergau or Spira which which the current naming developed.

On this evening walk we start our walking tour at the 11th-century Romanesque Speyer Cathedral. This cathedral is one of the main tourist sight of the city. We walk along the central Maximilianstraße. From there we explore the city center in all directions and even get out of the center towards the Gedächtniskirche.

We return the the cathedral and end our tour where we started. Speyer also has some more attractions such as the Historical Museum of the Palatinate (Historisches Museum der Pfalz) SEA LIFE Speyer which is another 10’ way and closed at the time of the walk.
