Innsbruck / Austria is of the state of Tyrol. The city is famous as a destination for winter sports. With its Imperial architecture in the old town it is also a popular destination for tourists.
We start today’s walking tour on a summer day at the Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl). This Ornate Habsburg residence (now a museum) is decorated by 2657 shiny tiles.
First we get to the Hofburg and quickly back to the central Maria Theresien Straße with St. Anne’s Column (Annasäule). This is one of the most popular streets in the city. We follow it to the Triumphpforte and walk around Maximilianstraße.
The Landhausplatz is less frequented today though some skaters use it for their practice.
As we return to the city center passing through the town hall mall, we pay a visit to the market square. It’s busy there with shops and amusement. Across the the river Inn the Innbrücke is nice for views of the city. At this location the first bridge was built in the 12th century.
We get back to the old town, visit the St. James Cathedral (Dom zu St. Jakob) and relax a bit from in the Hofgarten.
After we exit the park it’s to get back to the train station. A bit in a hurry it’s half jogging so we don’t miss our train. All went well so we continue our trip back to Germany.
