Bad Dürkheim / Germany is a spa town in Rhineland-Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz). Sometimes smaller towns were requested on POPtravel so here we go.The town of Bad Dürkheim is located on the German Wine Route. There are some things for tourists from nearby Mannheim and beyond like a spa park, a casino, some vineyards or forest…and a big whine festival.
We start our tour near the site of the Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt, which a folk festival first held in 1417 and popular wine event with often over half a million visitors visiting from the area. The festival usually takes place early-mid September yet has been cancelled for 2021. We still see the Ferris wheel and walk into town form the large parking area.
We see the 333m long “Gradierwerk” also called “Saline” which increases the salt concentration in the area. This large wooden structure that is designed to filter minerals from water.
Soon in Bad Dürkheim we explore the town on this rainy evening. We see the central Römerplatz and also walk to the local churches Burgkirche and Schlosskirche. In the end we get to the train station where we finish our walking tour through this small town.
