Walking in WUPPERTAL / Germany 🇩🇪

Elberfeld (2020)

Wuppertal / Germany is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia in western Germany. Located in and around the Wupper valley (German: “Tal”), Wuppertal is known for its “Schwebebahn”. This unusual train construction is a suspension monorail dating from 1901. At the time of recording the Schwebebahn only ran once a week on public holidays, the tracks are still visible all around the city center.

We start our walking tour of Wuppertal at the train station which is located at the southern city center. We walk via the new train station square northwards, crossing the Wupper river towards the city center with many shops. After a few minutes we are already at the Karlsplatz with the town hall (Rathaus).

From there we see some side street, the Rathaus Galerie shopping mall and much more of the city center.

We get to the northern part of the center passing the “Haus der Jugend Elberfeld” around half way through our walk with lots of graffiti around there, head back to the inner city on our way east.

Our tour continues towards the district of Ostersbaum, where the botanical garden is located. On that nice day we reach first the St. Marien church. Soon we continue uphill to the Hardt-Anlagen to reach the Botanical Gardens where we end our Wuppertal walking tour.
