Walking in HAMBURG / Germany πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

Center, Shopping District, Alster to Chilehaus

Hamburg is the second largest city of Germany (after Berlin). This important harbour city in Northern Germany is nice to explore so there are several walks in Hamburg on POPtravel.

On this day in September 2020 we start our tour in one of the the courtyards of the Hamburg City Hall (Hamburger Rathaus) behind the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce (Handelskammer Hamburg) at the Hygieia fountain (Hygieia-Brunnen).

We explore the city center of Hamburg and get to the Passagenviertel shopping district.

On this day it’s nice to see the Alster river half way through this walk, before we walk back to the town hall via the Alsterarkaden.

At last we stroll a bit on the busy MΓΆnckebergstraße, pass the St. Peter’s Church and later St. James’ Church. We get to the Chilehaus which is a huge brick building from the 1920’s. It was constructed to resemble a ship and now houses shops & offices as well as a few restaurants.

For a walk from the Chilehaus (in rainy weather) you may want to continue from minute 22 here: https://youtu.be/aPJElvV9SiM?t=1320
