We are in Antwerp (Dutch: Antwerpen), the second largest city in Belgium (after Brussels). Antwerp has some beautiful historical buildings in Flandern as it was a financial and trade center in the 16th century.
On this windy walking tour we start at overlooking the city’s Scheldt river. We cross the Ernest van Dijckkaai and walk the Suikerrui street to the ciy centre. There we see the Grote Markt with the Antwerp City Hall (Stadhuis van Antwerpen) and explore the area around the Cathedral of Our Lady Antwerp (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal Antwerpen).
The Hoogstraat we head south. We see the Plantentuin, a small botanical garden and get further south to the Leopoldplaats. There we soon turn around, pass the arts theatre Stadsschouwburg and walk past the Rubens House, which is also a tourist attraction.
The Meir walking street is getting quieter after the shops are closed. We make our way to the Groenplaats, see many streets and areas and end the walk at the Saint Carolus Borromeus Church.
